My husband, Dennis, and I have been farming for thirteen years...okay, actually, I should clarify: he's the farmer. I don't do much with that, contrary to a recent article promoting the release of the first book which erroneously stated that I am a farmer- I am not a farmer! I enjoy taking photos of fields, and occasionally I run the chuckwagon (food) and a vehicle somewhere or other. And I have been known to pick up a grain check at a nearby elevator...ahem...BUT, that hardly qualifies. Truth be told, I am not even a good farmer's wife- not by any standard....sigh... I'll just change the subject!
In addition to farming, we've been selling and renting farm machinery, at our business, RockTuff, in Roscoe, South Dakota since 1999. Which is where I have been for the past eight years-- at the store! During off hours I can be found at home in the garden, or at home on the couch watching television, or teaching the children how to do the housework, laundry, and cooking...so I don't have to do it any more...la la la
We have been blessed to have our two boys, 13 and 10, at our side whether at work or play, and they both more or less grew up 'at the shop'.
I became very passionate about gardening in order to have an outlet to be me-- a tough thing to do while attempting to help run a machinery business and being mom to two young boys. But, the more complicated my life became, the more I found myself in the backyard building a garden and tending the flowers/plants, eagerly showing my kids all I had been taught as a child. Photos of the resulting backyard gardens can be seen in the rotating photos on the home page... hope you took/take time for a virtual tour!
Soon after, rekindling a desire to write also began in earnest. And, thanks to my husband's support, and some really great employees over the years, I am able to write right at our equipment business. I write about all sorts of things, and sometimes I share what I pen. The Flower Kingdom Series is the first substantial creation I decided to share with the world. Incidentally, the Flower Kingdom stories were all written at my messy desk at our equipment business (when I shoulda been working!). Fortunately, my husband hasn't fired me (yet)...
Joking aside, we have been very blessed. We hope the Flower Kingdom will be a seed that touches other's lives in some way, small or large. Without God, nothing is possible. We thank and praise Him for it all!
p.s. I frequently share some of what I write on blogs, so if you care to read more of my thoughts, feel free to check out the 'diary' link. |
